So, how to market your NFT project? The number one rule in marketing is that not every technique works for every business. The same holds true in the NFT space. While I would love to give you straightforward guides on how to sell your collection effectively, what works for you, may not work for someone else. However, some techniques described in this article seem to work for most of the collections.

Before you pull out all kinds of marketing tactics, you must meet three important conditions: the style, the utility, and the way of messaging. Let’s call it the SUM framework. Without meeting all three requirements of the SUM framework, none of your marketing strategies will work for your NFT project.

Create artwork that stands out in the current market
With the current developments of NFT collections, a unique style is extremely important. Make sure the style appeals to your target group. They will share your artwork with their network if they actually like it. Always look for trends in the current market and what trends may be in the future. Right now, walking 3D renders seem to do good. In case you have money, try to hire or collaborate with a recognized artist as that will attract a large audience including the crypto whales.

Build utility for your product
Different from a year ago is the importance of utility in your project. projects without utility but with neat artwork, certainly get attention but will die out soon after because of the lack of incentives. Think of the strengths of your product. Can’t you think of any? That’s a good reason to review your product and see what you can improve. Try to put yourself in the shoes of the potential buyer and understand why he would/would not buy your NFT. Always focus on the incentives for a buyer to mint your collection. Also, never say things like we’re “building a community”, or just providing staking options. It doesn’t work.

Optimize your messaging to the target audience
See who your audience is (maybe people currently not in the NFT space?) and adjust to their language. Try to explain your product in two sentences. What incentives do you provide to potential buyers? Make it clear on your social media, such that potential buyers know what the project does and why they should buy it. Even though targeting people outside the NFT space can be lucrative, it may be hard for them to mint the project because of their lack of knowledge. Make sure that you provide them with support in case they don’t have the necessary knowledge.

Key marketing tactics for your project
Assuming you meet the three requirements in the SUM framework, here are some useful marketing tactics that can help sell out your project. Use about 5–10 different techniques. A/B test the ones that work for your project and double down on them.

  1. Whitelist giveaways: Give followers WL spots or cooperate with another Twitter user and let them give away the spots.
  2. NFT giveaway: Your social media grows, however, others in the NFT space don’t think you’re serious with the project. Keep this in mind when this type of giveaway
  3. Scarcity is key. Make sure you have at least more followers than your collection supply.
  4. Influencer collabs. Let them talk about your NFT or retweet one of your tweets. It may be good if the influencer makes a thread about why your project is so interesting.
  5. Influencer promo. Pay influencers to change their profile picture to your collection.
  6. Make art piece for big influencers in the hope they retweet it
  7. Story posts for influencers

  • Use about 5–10 different tactics
  • When doing giveaways, be aware that your audience is most of the time, not the ones that will mint your collection. Rather look for the whales
